Prevalence of and relationship between adverse childhood experiences and family context risk factors among children with intellectual disabilities and borderline intellectual functioning

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are an overlooked risk factor for behavioural, mental and physical health disparities in children with intellectual disabilities (ID) borderline functioning (BIF). To gain insight into the presence of 10 original Wave II ACEs family context variables a convenience sample ID BIF Dutch residential care. 134 case-files (n = 82) 52) were analysed quantitatively. 81.7 % experienced at least 1 ACE, as did 92.3 BIF. The average number was 2.02 (range 0−8) 2.88 0−7). About 20 moderate mild 4 or more. Many their families faced multiple complex problems (ID: 69.5 %; 86.5 %). Multiple regression analysis indicated association between children. prevalence appears to be considerably high. awareness clinical practice is vital help mitigate negative outcomes.
